The Black Social brings "All Black Everything" to the City

The Black Social is a seasonal music event presented by Project DBR and hosted by Rashad Walker. It will include performances by the following: Money Mitch, Top, Black Collar, Mo-Black, Shavar Rush, and K.V.

Tickets for the event are $10.00 prior to the day of and $15.00 if you decided to pay at the door. The dress code is ALL BLACK and there will be a videographer recording the ENTIRE event along with the shooting of K.V's "All Black" track off his upcoming "Reality Bytes" mixtape(song will be sent out to all in attendance a week before the show). There will also be complimentary drinks and hors d'euvres for those in attendance. Please contact the names on the flyer for tickets any addition information.

Community Awareness Drive - PSA featuring Big Ooh!

Boys & Girls Club "Community Awareness Drive" hosted by Big Ooh!

The Boys and Girls Club of Trenton and Mercer County in partnership with the Emerald Foundation's "Jewels for Gems" program will be hosting a Teen/Volunteer Drive hosted by Trenton’s own, Recording Artist, Big Ooh.

The purpose of this event will be to enhance community awareness on the volunteer opportunities at the Boys & Girls Club. And most importantly, introducing Trenton's teens to the free resources at their disposal by becoming a member.

Big Ooh! will release his long-awaited "God 1st All I See is the Money" mixtape as a part of the event.

So come down and tour the Boys & Girls Club and learn about one of Trenton’s best youth resources.

Monday Morning Motivation (2/14/11)

An Excellent Monday Morning to You!

On the morning of Valentine's Day, I often reflect back to what it was like to give away Valentine's Day cards, in Elementary School. What we thought was LOVE, was so innocent at the time. We gave, and we received. We were more sentimental; we created cards with color paper and got our hands messy with glue. We paid attention to detail, and gave what we felt was special, even if it wasn't legible.

This morning, pay attention to the details of your life. Make yourself fully of what it will take to reach your next platform. And don't be afraid to get your hands all gluey.

Find your innocence, your inner child, and reach out to the very person you feel needs to hear from you. Tell them that you care about them. Trust me, telling a person you care is far stronger than wavering with love. Appreciate the life you have and the lives you touch.

Writing to Serve Others Event

"Writing to Serve Others" will feature Trenton based authors Marie Antionette and Dr. Jack Washington will be held on Tuesday, February 15 from 12pm to 1pm at the Student Center, Room 104, West Windsor Campus.

Marie Antoinette has contributed to the Synergy of Trenton Blog in the past. That's not even the tip, of the tip of the iceberg. Marie is the author of three books, including the Cook Chronicles and CEO/Founder of Cauzing Elevation Publishing, LLC.

So go out and show support to one of Trenton's Own.

Saving Our City: Sound of Trenton

If you haven't noticed, quite a few businesses have closed in the Downtown area. Sadly, a large number of Trenton's residents depend on Public Assistance to even spend money Downtown. Between the 1st and the 5th, our Downtown area receives a burst in business from the city. Between the 6th and the 31st, it's dire.

We wanted to talk to you about a City Institution that needs your unwavery support. Sound of Trenton is a city landmark. Isay Levitsky owns one of our city's longest running businesses. Sound of Trenton is one of the last "Mom and Pop Record Stores" in this country. Isay has watched practically everyone under the age of 37 that grew up in this city, grow up. He knows our parents. He remembers every person, even the young men who have done 5 to 10 year bids and reappear in his store.

Isay loves this city so much and knows more about music than any of us. He has endured the ridicule of being Russian born, in an urban city selling American music. He has received disrespect on a daily from Trenton residents telling him that he doesn't know about "their" music. And he still stands strong, answer the questions and send them on their way.

I can understand the reason why many of you haven't appeared in his store as of late. Department stores like Wal-Mart and Target are selling Music at a fraction of the cost of what Sound of Trenton sells music. Here is a few differences between the two: Department stores buy CD's in bulk, reducing the price. Local record stores must buy CD's in smaller quantities, raising the price. Did you know that a local record store may have to pay upwards of $12 per CD; they still have to sell it; to make a profit you must sell that CD for at least $2 more. Department stores don't make money from selling music. Local record stores like Sound of Trenton must sell CD's to keep the lights on.

Sound of Trenton is YOUR store. It is a City mainstay. We must support it. A few dollars more for music, keeps our city thriving. And honestly, after you pay for gas to go up the highway to save a few dollars on a CD, you're paying the same amount in the end. Those departments don't care about you; they don't know you and could care less how your mother is doing. Isay at Sound of Trenton does CARE. Support isn't just about receiving it for yourself, it is about shwoing it to others. Show Support!

Monday Morning Motivation (2/7/11)

This is your morning!

Ok, it won't be easy but it is definitely your morning. You must do one thing: Live in the Moment. Living in the moment isn't easy when you haven't a clue of what is distracting you from doing so.

Distractions have grown into a way of life for many of us, unknowingly. Whether it's social networking, mainly social networking, texts, emails, BBM, Skype, relationships, etc. distractions are the gate keepers to us living in the moment.

The old adage of stopping to smell the roses has become, "At least don't crush the rose as you speed by."

This morning, take a moment to think about your everyday life; your everyday distractions. What can you do to ease off or simply calm your mindstate to lessen these distractions; to focus on the here and now. We tend to build better futures for ourselves when we plan for those moments now. We must afford paying attention. Live in the moment.
